This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different nutrient management systems on the quantitative and qualitative traits of sugar beet cultivars. The experiment was carried out during the 2024–2025 growing season in Shushtar, Iran, as a factorial experiment based on a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The first factor consisted of three sugar beet cultivars, including two foreign cultivars (Antek and Hani) and one Iranian cultivar (Homa). The second factor comprised eight cumulative nutrient management treatments: F1, control (no fertilizer application); F2: basal fertilization based on soil test recommendations; F3: F2 + foliar application of a micronutrient fertilizer (1.5 L ha⁻¹); F4: F3 + foliar application of NPK (20–20–20) fertilizer (3 kg ha⁻¹); F5: F4 + foliar application of amino acids (1.5 L ha⁻¹); F6: F5 + foliar application of seaweed extract (1.5 L ha⁻¹); F7: F6 + foliar application of potassium sulfate (3 kg ha⁻¹) two months before harvest; and F8: F7 + humic acid application (3 kg ha⁻¹) through fertigation. The results showed that among the evaluated cultivars, Homa produced the highest root yield, with a mean of 89.99 t ha⁻¹. Among the nutrient management treatments, F8 and F7 produced the highest root yields, reaching 113 and 103 t ha⁻¹, respectively, corresponding to 38% and 36% increases over the control treatment. Regarding juice quality traits, the highest recoverable sugar percentage was obtained under the F7 and F3 treatments. In addition, integrated nutrient management, particularly under the F8 treatment, significantly increased the contents of photosynthetic pigments, including chlorophyll a, total chlorophyll, and carotenoids, with the most pronounced response observed in the Antek cultivar. Overall, the findings demonstrate that integrated nutrient management, combining balanced mineral fertilization with biostimulants and humic substances, can effectively enhance root yield, recoverable sugar, and photosynthetic performance in sugar beet under the agroecological conditions of Shushtar.
Keywords: Sugar percentage, root yield, biostimulants and integrated fertilizer management.
