In order to investigate the qualitative and quantitative of forage yield in intercropping of triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) and vetch (Vicia panonica) as a second crop in paddy fields, an experiment was conducted based on a randomized complete block design with three replications at research fields of Rice Research Institute of Iran in Rasht during two cropping seasons of 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. The experimental treatments were included intercropping of triticale and vetch with replacement ratios of 1:1 (one row of triticale + one row of vetch), 2:2 (two row of triticale + two row of vetch), 3:1 (threerow of triticale + one row of vetch) and 1:3 (one row of triticale + threerow of vetch) and solecropping of triticale and vetch. The results showed that the cropping pattern had significant effect on all of studied traits. The highest fresh forage yield (44571 kg.ha-1), dry forage yield (12157 kg.ha-1) and protein yield (1695 kg.ha-1)were obtained from 3:1 triticale:vetch intercropping. Increasing vetch percentage in intercroping resulted leaf-to-stem ratio, crude protein content, forage ash, and consequently, forage quality increase. Land equivalent ratio in all intercropping treatments was more than one. The highest value of this index was obtained in the 1:3 and 1:1 triticale:vetch treatments, respectively. According on the results, to achieve optimal yield and greater advantage, the ratios of 3:1 and 1:1 triticale:vetch, are recommended as the most suitable intercropping combinations for second crop after rice harvesting in paddy fields of Guilan province, respectively.
