In order to investigate the effects of chemical fertilizers on grain yield and efficiency of elements in faba bean (Vicia faba L.) as a second crop in paddy fields, a factorial experiment in complete randomized block design was conducted with three replications at research fields of Rice Research Institute of Iran in Rasht during two cropping seasons of 2018-2020. Experimental treatments were three levels of nitrogen (46, 69 and 92 kg.ha-1 from urea fertilizer source), two levels of phosphorus (48 and 96 kg.ha-1 from triple super phosphate source) and three levels of potassium (50, 75 and 100 kg.ha-1 from potassium sulfate source).A treatment without fertilizer usage was considered for an independent comparison. The results showed that the maximum grain yield of faba bean was achieved by application of the highest levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, with averages of 4309, 3996 and 4143 kg.ha-1, respectively. Among nitrogen levels, the highest nitrogen uptake efficiency and nitrogen use efficiency were observed at the lowest nitrogen level, with averages of 3.31and 73.74kg/kg, respectively. Increasing the levels of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers increased the phosphorus efficiency. Also, the use of high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilisers increased potassium efficiency. Overall, in order to achieve the maximum fertilizer use efficiency and grain yield, the application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium at the rate of 92, 96 and 100kg.ha-1, respectively could be recommended for faba bean cultivation as a second crop after rice harvesting in paddy fields of Guilan provinces.
