Abstract:   (594 Views)
The yield and quality of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is influenced by sowing date, plant density per unit area and cultivar. This experiment was carried out a split-split plot based on randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications during two crop years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 at Baye Kola (Neka) Agricultural Research Station. three sowing dates; On November 30, December 15 and December 30, in the main plots, four densities of 300, 350, 400 and 450 seeds m-2 in sub plots and three cultivars of spring wheat (Marvarid, Gonbad and Ehsan) were compared in sub-sub plots. The number of grains per spike and protein percentage were not affected by sowing date. The grain yield on the second and third sowing date were 25.7 and 37.5 percent lower than the first sowing date, respectively. With a rise in plant density, the number of grains per spike, thousand kernel weight and protein percentage were decreased but plant height, spikes per unit area and biological yield were increased. Ehsan cultivar had the highest duration of grain filling, spikes per unit area, grains per spike, grain yield and protein percentage in compare of to other cultivars. The interaction of sowing date in seed rate on grain yield and sowing date in cultivar on thousand kernel weight were significant. The correlation between grain yield and all traits except grains per spike and protein percentage was positive and significant. Biological yield showed the highest correlation with grain yield (0.84**). According to the results, in order to achieve high yield, on November 20 , 360 seeds mand on December 20 , 450 seeds m2  are recommended.
