Heavy metals are one of the common environmental pollutants which can be found in industrial societies. The toxicity of heavy metals and its impact on the food chain is one of the main environmental concerns of modern societies. In this regard, in order to investigate the effect of heavy metals in the soil around Bidboland 1 gas refinery on morphophysiological and biochemical characteristics of wax bean (Koosha cultivar), a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with four replications at Khatam Al-Anbia University of Technology in Behbahan in 2017. The treatments consisted of four soil surfaces without pollution (control) and with low, medium and high pollution that were harvested from the field around the refinery at distances of 500, 1000, 1500 meters from the refinery and their heavy metal concentrations were measured. The results of soil analysis showed that the soil around the refinery was contaminated with cadmium, chromium, lead, vanadium, mercury and arsenate, which decreased significantly with increasing distance from the refinery. Cultivated plants were harvested after one month in the vegetative stage of the plant for experiments. The results showed that heavy metal pollution significantly reduced fresh weight rate , dry weight, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, carotenoids, pure photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv / Fm; PIABS), intercellular CO2, transpiration, water consumption efficiency and plant growth. According to the results of the present study, by increasing the distance from the refinery and reducing pollution, the toxicity effects of soil pollution on bean yield decreased. Based on the results of the present study, it can be suggested that the tension of heavy metals due to the activity of the gas refinery had a negative effect on the performance of the photosynthetic system and the growth of bean plant.
